In 2014 the US Public Interest Research Group named South Dakota as the top advancing state for transparency.
Since 2011 South Dakota has improved its US PIRG transparency rating from a D+ to an A-.

Governing Principle:

Citizens deserve a government that is open and transparent. Unless there is a clear, compelling, and legal reason, information should be easily accessible. Information on proposed agency rules, the names of those attending state-sponsored economic development functions, and more economic development analysis and data should be made available to our citizens. We'll work to make that information, and much more, easily accessible.
